What is the Aurum Project?
The Aurum Project is an Australian facility for homeopathic medicine research which received approval as a charitable institution in 2005.
Our mission is to advance the understanding and practice of homeopathy in Australia by promoting and conducting research into the use of homeopathic medicines for childhood health and behavioural problems.
The Aurum Project aims to promote and develop research in the homeopathic profession and enable a pathway for homeopathic researchers. By acting as a research partner for grant applications it aims to encourage collaboration between homeopathic practitioners and medical researchers.
Our vision is to provide contemporary evidence to validate and promote the use of high quality homeopathic treatment in Australia for childhood health and behavioural problems.
What research are you doing at the Aurum Project?
We are conducting research into the homeopathic preparation of Melatonin for the treatment of Insomnia. We are also beginning a small clinical trial, with sponsorship from Keysun Laboratories. In homeopathic terms this is known as an HPT (Human Pathogenetic Trial) or more commonly, a proving.
Who will benefit from this research?
Our research helps homeopaths in Australia and around the world as the profession of homeopathy will benefit from our research as all new knowledge is contributed to the greater whole. So homeopaths will benefit from new information as well as new research about various remedies. Eventually our research trickles down to families and children, in terms of more accurate homeopathic prescribing.
The Aurum Project plans to make the information gathered from research available to the homeopathic profession and the public. As well as validating homeopathy as a viable form of primary health care, our aim is for the results of the research to enable parents to confidently consider this method of health care for their child.
What is the background of the Aurum Project?
The Aurum Project was started in 2004 by Linlee Jordan and Penny Barron. Penny, a homeopath with a background in science was interested in promoting research into homeopathy. Linlee was interested in providing a vehicle for further education and employment, and an alternative to clinical practice for the growing number of homeopathic graduates. Together they both had a passion for improving research in to children’s behavioural problems and in general promoting children’s health. And so the Aurum Project was born.
What has it done to date?
The Aurum Project was officially launched in September 2006 and since then we have been involved in:
- Gaining the highest level possible of full tax deductible and gift recipient Charity status from Australian government bodies for natural therapies research. Completed.
- Initiating and writing the document “Australian Research Priorities” in conjunction with homeopathy industry groups and professional bodies. Completed.
- Seeking liasion and support from the Australian Homeopathic Association and other professional bodies. Completed.
- Conducting a case series analysis of children’s behavioural treatment using the remedy Hyoscyamus. The study showed that overall the number of children who had a positive response even if slight was 93.3%. Completed.
- Publication of the report from the case series analysis in Similia Journal, WellBeing Magazine and the book Challenging Children. Completed.
- HPT Trial of Melatonin 6x funded by Keysun Laboratories. Completed.
- HPT Trial of new substance funded by Keysun Laboratories. In progress.
- Pilot study of Melatonin 6x for insomnia. In progress.
- Conducting Harness Your Success auditing workshops. To be held 14th March, Sydney.
- Conducting Harness Your Success auditing workshops in other states of Australia. In planning.
What are Aurum Project’s plans for the future?
We are hoping to continue with our goal of research for years to come! In the near future we intend to do more trials and more provings and also to promote the process of clinical research through organising and providing clinical auditing workshops to practicing homeopaths or students. These workshops will guide practitioners into data collection, analysis and provide helpful insights into what is working in their practice and what can be improved. This is another application of the benefit of research.
Who runs it?
The Aurum Project is run by our management committee and guided and supported by other committees. Our president is Linlee Jordan; vice president Nyema Hermiston; secretary Monica Dunne and administrator Sunny Goddard.
