When we first learn homeopathy we learn many facts about a remedy. Let us look briefly at Natrum Muriaticum as an example:
What are the mind symptoms? One is mental excitement; laughs or cries immoderately
What are the head symptoms? One is heaviness in the head especially in the occiput
What are the stomach symptoms? One is appetite usually good at noon and in the evening.
Natrum Muriaticum has over 21,000 rubrics listed (Complete Repertory 2021). One of our axioms “like cures like” guides us to use the logical mind to understand the persons suffering (shown through their symptoms) and matching these as best we can to the rubrics of a remedy. We strive for the simillimum prescription.

This method is the left brain approach - the nuts and bolts of homeopathy training and practice and practise. It takes many years of dedicated attention to refine our understanding of a remedy and to fully appreciate the nuances of the remedy and the patient for a good prescription. Our left brain loves this kind of activity, it is full of order, solving problems, making sense out of everything in a logical fashion.

And yet James Tyler Kent writes the following when describing Natrum Muriaticum

“We may need to go higher and higher until the secret spring is touched.”

A secret spring? What is this? I somehow know in my heart about this, the metaphor seems to make some sense, but how will I know I found that spring? Where do I look? How do I look? All of a sudden there is a switch out of the logical rational world into one governed by right brain function. Here the relational and intuition are the foundations of knowledge, not 21,000 rubrics. Jeremy Sherr calls this tuition from within. “To develop it we need to work hard, gain knowledge and experience which over time becomes our own. Without this, intuition becomes demolition.”

We have a brain with two sides, mirrored centres of neurology, connected by the corpus callosum. Our neurology shows us that we are feeling creatures who think, not thinking creatures who feel. We live in a world of duality and polarities for example hot and cold, slippery and rough, heavy and light. Today the world puts thinking ahead of feeling. We are at odds with our own biology.
We can learn how to use our right brain functions for ourselves and our patients and open up the possibilities this brings for our practise. This is not a simple switch though, it takes training. When we undertake that training, we heal our own disconnection and separation, and can guide our patients towards their own healing path. An integrated holistic approach for homeopathy.

This is what Dinesh Chauhan and Khumari offer in his book “The right brain approach in homeopathy.” A way to start learning the ropes of right brain thinking, to start training your intuition, which can be used in your practice. It is an integrated approach where left brain knowledge is joined with right brain experience. When doing this, Dinesh has found difficult blocked cases opened, because something between him and his patient opened. They witnessed something together which became their mutual healing path.

This path is not for all homeopaths and that is OK. If it speaks to you to open this door to the secret spring, then this book is well worth exploring. It will give you ideas and methods to explore as you delve into what looks like dark spaces. While these matters cannot be comprehended by our logical mind, with the knowledge and light of this book our right brains can intuit the direction to travel.
